I've made a small change to my color palette inspiration, so I thought I would share:

As you can see, the green is gone.  I love green, and I will certainly be wearing it this fall, but when I looked at what I have in my wardrobe and the fabric that I chose (above the color palette) it just wasn't working for me.  So here's the final color choices from left to right:  Rich Black, Ivory, Brown Sugar, Teal Blue, and Van Dyke Brown.

It's time to talk patterns and fabric!

So.  Apparently I've been collecting rib knits all summer. I have three from Girl Charlee, three from Walmart's value bundles, and two that have aging in my stash that I rediscovered. As I mentioned in my last post my goal is to use fabrics I already have.  The reason my color palette has "rich black" instead of "black" is I have a nice rib knit that is almost black, but not quite. As a red head, I don't know that a true black is actually my friend, so this slightly off-black is a nice alternative. Clearly the Abstract Vertical knit print is the inspiration, but I have a lot of fabrics that will compliment it, like an ivory, chunky sweater ribbed knit, and a teal/black/yellow retro striped rib knit. I also have a leopard print Liverpool knit in a camel color that I think will look fabulous as some type of topper (cardigan, blazer...?) as well as a bubble fabric that I got as a remnant last year in that teal blue color that could look amazing as a vest.

Let's dive into my non-fall pattern choices. Because September is still in the 80s here in Houston and will be until October and possibly November.  <sigh>

I don't know if every woman "needs" a black pencil skirt, but I certainly do! I made one two years ago, but I've put on a few WFH covid pounds, and it's snugger than I'd like.  I'm 99% positive that I have black Ponte in my stash, so I'm going to make another Sybil pencil skirt by LoveNotions. I like this skirt because it's one of those superfast makes that I can have cut and sewn in about 2 hours. It's also my absolute go-to pattern as there are SO many options. This is the only "bottom" piece I plan to make as I've already purchased my pants for this capsule.  I'm going to make my skirt in a midi length so it will transition into winter. This post will go live Monday and I plan to complete this over the weekend, so my first piece will be done!

In August, I purchased this fabric from GirlCharlee to make a LoveNotions Olympia dress for a wedding I'm going to in October:

I've used the LoveNotions Olympia dress pattern before, and I wanted something I already had the fit issues worked out on

When I was working out what I already have in the shopping list that's provided, I realized that this dress, while not an exact color match, was close enough that it would still work well for my fall capsule.  The wedding is now less than two weeks away, and I'm actually done with this dress, so this is an absolute win!!

One piece I really want to add to my capsule this fall is a pair of overalls.  When I told my husband this, he definitely thought I was crazy. I want to find that fine line between business casual/comfy casual.  I think Helen's Closet does a great job of that with the Yanta Overalls pattern.  I bought the pattern during her last sale, but this one I'm not sure if I have fabric for in my stash. I'd love to make these in a tencel twill.

I think the slightly drapier fabric would allow me to wear a blouse or less casual top, while still having the comfort of being overalls. Mood Fabrics has some lovely tencel twill in a multitude of colors, but it comes with a price that is more than I typically spend on fabric. Also, while I own the pattern, I haven't made the pattern. So I need fabric for a muslin too. I'm not sure I want to put $75+ into a pair of overalls.  I was going to use a green fabric I already have, and maybe I will for the muslin. If they work, I'd end up with two pairs!

A patterned blouse is also on my to sew list. I bought some really pretty floral fabric at Fabric.com on one of their Friday sales, with no idea what I was going to use it for. I think I vaguely floated another LN Rhapsody Blouse, which would be lovely, but I don't want all my blouses to look the same!  I've been very happy with Chalk and Notch patterns, so I've decided to sew up a Wren blouse!
This button down blouse has cute sleeves that fall into the statement sleeve trend without being "too" statement. This was on my cut table for this weekend too, so I'm hoping to have it done quickly. I realized when I was shopping my stash that the flowers had both the brown sugar color and teal color in the print.  It will also match the athleisure pants that I bought for this capsule, so I can dress it up with slack or go more casual. And of course jeans! So I'm super excited about this blouse.

I still have some more pieces to decide on.  Like how I'm going to use my inspiration fabric, what pattern I'm going to use for my basic short sleeved t-shirt, and I'm even thinking about making a tote bag for my capsule! But I feel like I'm off to a good start with these pieces.

As always, more to come!
