I've mentioned before that I work from home. My office is also my sewing studio. Sometimes this makes it very inspiring to work, as I can see all my sewing things to be inspired by. Other times I'm just tired of seeing it all. However, the biggest issue for me is summer, because this same office is on the sunny side of the house in the Mrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-42782757297089264072021-09-27T06:00:00.002-05:002021-09-27T06:00:00.195-05:00I've made a small change to my color palette inspiration, so I thought I would share:As you can see, the green is gone. I love green, and I will certainly be wearing it this fall, but when I looked at what I have in my wardrobe and the fabric that I chose (above the color palette) it just wasn't working for me. So here's the final color choices from left to right: Rich Black, Mrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0Houston, TX, USA29.7604267 -95.36980281.4501928638211545 -130.5260528 58.070660536178849 -60.2135528tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-30104601975877670342021-09-13T06:00:00.001-05:002021-09-13T06:00:00.264-05:002021 Fall Capsule Color InspirationIf you live in the South like me, or maybe even the southern hemisphere, your weather may not be screaming fall to you despite all the pumpkin spice craziness that started this month. And while I'm MORE than ready for some cozy sweaters on a cool fall morning, corduroy pants, or a long cowl neck dress, my upper 80's degree weather mocks me!For fall, I just plain need help putting together aMrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-73991300486690641792021-09-10T20:45:00.001-05:002021-09-10T20:45:49.877-05:00Summer Capsule - How Did I Do?!Summer may be coming to a close for some peope, but here in TX, we'll be hot for at least another month. And possibly through Christmas - yes, I've had my a/c on at Christmas time. However, I try to switch my wardrobe seasonally even if it's only my colors. Since summer "ends" on September 22nd, I'm going to declare my summer color palette done! So. How did I do on my capsule? But this piece was so easy, it almost doesn't count! When I was in New Orleans in May, I stopped by Promenade Fabrics. Their website doesn't do them justice because it is fabric nirvana!! I spent over a glorious hour perusing their small store, and I could have spent thousands. In the end,Mrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-33392620092639889402021-07-10T18:16:00.004-05:002021-07-10T18:32:03.094-05:00Capsule Color Knit TopI spent the 4th of July holiday on Tablerock Lake in MO. and it was fabulous. Lots of rest, relaxation, sunshine and swimming! But when I got home after 5 days on the lake, I was itching to get a piece completed for y Summer Capsule. I got a fabric shipment from Fabric Mart while I was on vacation and in it was a lovely saffron yellow knit fabric. I recently watched a YouTube video onMrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-12263875918143112692021-06-25T07:10:00.001-05:002021-06-25T07:10:00.227-05:00Beyond Basic White Knit TopI have a lot of knit pattern tops. I like knit tops. I almost never have fitting issues with knit tops!! But I struggled with determining which pattern to use. If you've been following my posts, you know that I'm trying to use patterns I own (ahem, might have broken this rule yesterday!) but I also don't want to muslin every one of the nine pieces I'm planning to make. So I Mrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-622284553295705172021-06-24T07:10:00.002-05:002021-06-24T07:10:14.188-05:00Casual DressI really had to think about the casual dress in my Summer Capsule. I love a good sundress. I own...at least 10. But. I don't like them for the office. Houston can be hot in the summer (and this summer we're off to a scorcher in June, not a good sign!) and my office takes heat seriously. As in, we live in the land of the penguins during summer! I got this lovely piece of olive knit lace in a Knit Pop box that was all remnants. I loved it, but it was a little less than a yard and there was a small hole as well, so I wasn't really sure what IMrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-53770371370664942942021-06-18T07:34:00.001-05:002021-06-18T07:34:41.783-05:00Summer SewingMy last post, Me Made May 2021, only had one week of photos. Yes, I participated all month. But I had a graduating senior and it was incredibly challenging to work, get him to and from senior activities, and find time to photograph daily outfits. Still, it was a lot of fun to participate and even my husband was impressed that I wore a Me Made outfit every day. I first learned of this phenom last year when I was doing my quarantine sewing. I was really just getting back into sewing after a 10-year hiatus and I really enjoyed seeing all the things sewists around the world have made. And that's the part I really enjoy- is that sewing is beautifully and culturally diverse. And seeing how others interpret patterns, styles, and Mrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-3148034132194543362021-03-30T07:17:00.001-05:002021-03-30T07:17:16.191-05:00StyleArc Clementine When I saw the Clementine Dress & Top from StyleArc, I bought it immediately. The drop waist dress is something I would have worn in my younger years, so that is a pass for me. But the top. With the square neckline and the puff sleeve? I've been sewing more than I've been blogging. Technically a good thing right?! But rather than start with the oldest thing I've sewn, I'm starting with the newest. Which is not in my Make 9 Plan at all. It's all good...When Love Notions released their Metra Blazer last month, I really liked it. I don't wear a lot of heavy jackets because it's not necessary here in Houston.Mrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-19423406443030924232021-01-26T06:00:00.001-06:002021-01-26T06:00:09.211-06:00Never Enough DressesAt last count, I have 47 spring/summer dresses. This doesn't include anything from fall or winter I think there's only 10 - 12 of those. Some people my mom think this is ridiculous because no one needs that many dresses. My theory is that there are 365 days in the year and I'm nowhere near close to having one for every day of the year, so there really isn't an issue.&Mrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-46199924649270254972021-01-25T04:30:00.002-06:002021-01-25T04:30:03.382-06:00Fall 2020 Work From Home ModualI mentioned in a recent post that I had completed some of Fall 2020 Work From Home pieces and I plan to post them as time allows! This was actually the third piece I made, but it might be my favorite! It's the Gilbert Top from Helen's Closet. I'm just going to say it. I LOVE this shirt. It's one of the best fitting button down I've ever made. I had patterns. I bought fabric. And I sewed up 3 of my 9 items. But fall is my busiest time of year at work, and sadly, that was as far as it got. I LOVE the pieces I sewed, and I plan to blog about them now that work is a little calmer, but as always, I'm dreaming about the next things I'd like to sew up.&Mrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0South Texas29.7604267 -95.36980281.4501928638211545 -130.5260528 58.070660536178849 -60.2135528tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-69743413678462960142021-01-23T04:00:00.001-06:002021-01-23T04:00:07.475-06:00Love Notions Whistler I have plenty on the sewing inspiration board for spring that aren't Love Notions, but this winter, I was really drawn to some patterns I hadn't tried before and Whistler was one of them!Let's talk winter in south Texas for a moment. And by winter, I mean the 2-3 weeks in January that we might get temperatures in 30's at night. That's it. I've had this pattern for awhile but for some reason, I hadn't made it up yet. One of my favorites is definitely Whitney at TomCatStitchery. She is beyond talented and seems like such a genuinely nice person too. For her fall module, she's doing The Work From Home Module Sewalong on IN (@tomcatstitcherycarmel) and I instantly knew thisMrs Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03775681174752338068noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17695774.post-74034489340340782652020-09-10T04:00:00.002-05:002020-09-27T16:26:02.562-05:00Style InspirationRecently I was scrolling Maurices and saw this really cute shirt that I could see paired with the corduroy skirt I posted recently in my fall plans. It was on clearance and in my size, which normally, is an automatic purchase. But the color choices - "smoke pink" or "gray" weren't shades I would ever wear and didn't really say fall to me. It was cut out, so I questioned if I had already (ahem, my pattern collection is more than just a little out of control!) but a quick review of my blog didn't show any posts, so apparently not. This is one of those patterns where I genuinely like all the views! Even my now 22 year old daughter often sends me pins from Pinterest or tags me on IG for thins she wants me to make her.
